We follow the Director of Licensing standard of practice recommendations on Screen Time because we care about the health and well-being of the children in our care.

  • Children under the age of two should not watch television.
  • Children aged 2 and above should spend no more than 30 minutes per day in childcare and no more than 2 hours per day in total.

ACTIVE PLAY

Regular physical activity is important for everyone, but it is especially important for young children. Active play is about moving, being and doing. Children may engage in active play by themselves or with other children The Fun Zone Learning and Childcare will participate in a minimum of 60 minutes of outdoor active play. If we are met with poor weather conditions the children will participate in indoor active play such as dancing.

We will incorporate active play into our daily routine by engaging in music and movement during circle time, gross motor circle time activities, games and/or transitions, obstacle courses, and free-play activities that encourage gross motor movement.

Benefits of Active Play

  • To encourage bone growth and muscle development
  • To support gross motor development
  • To keep body weight at healthy levels
  • To prevent the development of health issues like high blood pressure and type II diabetes
  • To promote better sleep
  • To help them be better prepared to face everyday stress, either physical or emotional

Parents/ guardians will need to provide children with appropriate clothing in accordance with the weather for them to successfully participate in daily active play. For example, indoor/outdoor shoes, appropriate outerwear (snow/rain jacket), boots, gloves, spare set of splash pants and rain jacket or muddy buddy

We do not allow youngsters under the age of two to watch television. Less than 30 minutes of screen time per day for children 2 years and older could be allowed for educational purposes or occasionally for music, movement
