Lunches will be microwave heated.

Children’s learning and physical development depend on healthy eating. Healthy eating habits are encouraged, and child development is enhanced by positive early food experiences.

These experiences are supported and created in large part by educators.

By sharing meals and snacks with the students, the educator will serve as a healthy eating role model. The teacher will give the youngster enough time and encouragement rather than forcing them to eat. The teacher never withholds a child food, nor will they ever give a youngster food as a reward.

Additionally, the educator won’t let kids eat or drink unattended.

Please note that popcorn, chips, grapes, carrots and wieners can be a choking hazard to children under the age of 36 months. Carrots, grapes, sausages, and grape tomatoes can be cut lengthwise in order to minimize this hazard.

The Fun Zone Learning and Childcare believes in enjoying all foods in

moderation, and will occasionally engage the children in cooking and baking activities. Chocolate foods will be limited in these circumstances, and alternative sweeteners such as applesauce and honey may be employed.

Children and their families may occasionally want to enjoy a special snack or treat. On these occasions, children will be encouraged to eat a healthy dish first, and the treat will be served to the group during afternoon snack (or at the option of the staff

in the morning preschool programs). Children with dietary needs will be accommodated, or an alternative will be provided. Parents with dietary limitations are welcome to bring things for such occasions. Please ask a staff member about our handout with sugar-free alternatives to popular sweets.

Allergies

Parents/guardians need to inform the center during registration if their child has allergies of any kind. A required form will be provided, and a care plan will be formulated in consultation with the Parents.

Care plans will contain.

Description of medical condition, allergy, or support needs

  • Specific signs and symptoms (for allergy or medical condition) Action required – this should be specific, and in order of importance.
  • Any other notes/concerns, including any special equipment that needs to be provided to the child (example: medication) or changes that are required to meet the needs of the child.

There will be a visible list posted at all times of all allergies in the Childcare. The Fun Zone Learning and Childcare is a nut free zone
