The childcare standards enforce the administration of drugs in daycares. This policy safeguards staff, parents, and children. Early childhood educators are not formally trained to make decisions about whether it is appropriate to administer drugs. Only drugs that have been prescribed by a doctor will be given. Before the staff can deliver the medication, the parents must complete a medication authorization form.

Under no circumstances will we give out any over-the-counter drugs like Tylenol, Advil, Gravol, etc.

  1. All prescription drugs are kept in a refrigerator container that is locked and out of the kids’ reach.
  2. If a child experiences any adverse effects or reactions from medication, such as hives, drowsiness, or diarrhea, parents are required to notify professionals.
  3. If a child has had an immunization and is perhaps ill or experiencing soreness at the injection site, parents must also notify the staff.
  4. Parents or legal guardians must sign the prescription administration authorization form.
  5. Parents or guardians must complete a medical consent form for each medication that is needed.
  6. You must bring your medication to the daycare in its original container and with directions from your doctor on how to take it.
